100 years of Venini

In 1921, Paolo Venini and Giacomo Cappellin set up a glass factory in Venice, on the island of Murano. This year we celebrate Venini’s centenary.

In the mid-1960s, Tapio designed his first objects for Venini. The fruitful collaboration resulted in objects that utilize Murano’s rich range of colors and the filigree technology. A long and flourishing collaboration had begun – one that sealed Tapio’s love for Italy and even more so for Venice. Venini had a profound effect on Tapio’s life and career as well as Tapio influenced the ways of working with glass in Murano.

Exhibitions curated by Marino Barovier will open at Le Stanze del Vetro in Venice on 21st of November: Tapio Wirkkala and Toni Zuccheri at Venini. Selected works of Tapio Wirkkala and Italian designer Toni Zuccheri for Venini are presented in parallel exhibitions, the content of which focuses especially on the second half of the 60s.
